Baseline study on people's perception of violence against women and girls in Tajikistan within the Spotlight Initiative

This study consists of three main components:

  1. Mapping of Government agencies and NGOs/CSOs working in the area of Gender-based violence;
  2. Knowledge, Attitude, Practice and Behaviour of respondents, including population and government employees;
  3. Capacity assessment of the government agencies and civil society organizations to promote gender equality and eradicate gender-based and sexual violence.

The study revealed that:

  • the majority of respondents agreed with the statement that violence against women is a serious problem in society (75.2%).
  •  4.1% of all respondents believe it is justified to subject girls to child marriage.
  • on average 41.2% of respondents justify physical violence. One of the most powerful reasons, according to respondents "justifying violence" is cheating 79.8% (women - 86.6%).
  • analysis by "gender of respondents" shows that, on average, women are more likely to justify beating their partner (43.5%) than men (38.9%).
